Sacramento DA Thien Ho Lands Key Law Enforcement Officer's Endorsement in CA-06 Congressional Bid

"When it comes to honoring the rule of law, Thien Ho stands as a model of integrity and courage."

Sacramento DA Thien Ho has received the endorsement of Sacramento County Sheriff Jim Cooper in the race for California's newly drawn 6th Congressional District.

Ho, who was first elected as District Attorney in 2022, is challenging former Democratic State Senator and Assemblymember Dr. Richard Pan for the seat. Ho has maintained a highly visible local, statewide, and national presence since taking office, in contrast to his two immediate predecessors, Ann Marie Schubert and Jan Scully.

Sheriff Cooper cited Ho’s commitment to law and order in his statement of support.

"When it comes to honoring the rule of law, Thien Ho stands as a model of integrity and courage," Cooper said. "As District Attorney, he has demonstrated a firm commitment to public safety that is well balanced between justice and accountability — I have no doubt he would bring that same dedication to Congress."

Cooper's endorsement adds significant weight to Ho's campaign, which is already boasting a growing coalition of local and national political support. Ho's list of supporters now includes Sacramento Mayor Kevin McCarty, Assemblymember Stephanie Nguyen, Sacramento City Councilmember Phil Pluckebaum, and Congressman Derek Tran.

The campaign also highlighted a strong early fundraising haul, announcing that Ho had raised $300,000 in the first 24 hours of his campaign. Campaign spokespersons suggested that the early show of financial and political support should serve as a "signal to other candidates to clear the way for his campaign."

While Ho and Pan are the top contenders, there are seven other declared candidates for the 6th District - four Democrats and three Republicans. However, one Republican, Ray Riehle, has stated he may switch district candidacy in the aftermath of redrawn districts resulting from the adoption of voter-approved Proposition 50.
