Sacramento County District Attorney Running to Represent California’s 6th Congressional District

SACRAMENTO, CA — Sacramento District Attorney Thien Ho announced today that he is running for Congress in California’s 6th Congressional District, which includes communities across Sacramento, Placer, and Yolo counties.

“As a Vietnamese refugee who became Sacramento County’s District Attorney and helped bring the Golden State Killer to justice, I’ve spent my life fighting for victims and protecting our neighborhoods,” Ho said. “While Congress does  nothing to address families struggling with rising costs and threats to their rights, I’m running to restore the rule of law, stand up to extremism, and deliver real results for our community.”

Ho released a launch video, “Land of the Free,” sharing his family’s escape from dictatorship and commitment to fighting for working families and standing up to Donald Trump and MAGA extremists when elected.

Pulling people out of cars and schools.

When I was a boy, my family fled a dictatorship.

My father wore a stolen army uniform and carried a toy gun, so we could slip past armed guards…

…and make our way here, to the land of the free, as political refugees.

I became a prosecutor because in America, the rule of law is supposed to protect the innocent, not shield the powerful.

So I stood up for victims, protected kids from violent predators, and put away the worst serial killer in California’s history.

As District Attorney, I’ve enforced the law to protect our families, clean up our streets, and help people get off the sidewalk and into treatment.

But now, Donald Trump and his henchmen are twisting the law, to grab more power for themselves.

Tearing health care from working parents as the cost of rent and groceries skyrocket, just to line the pockets of billionaires.

And Congress?

They’re bending the knee to him, instead of standing up for us.

I’m Thien Ho, and I’m running for Congress because this race can break Trump’s MAGA majority.

This race can restore the rule of law, defend our constitutional rights, and yes, every woman’s right to make her own medical decisions.

Now is the time for us all to be brave. And stand together for the land of the free.

Ho was elected Sacramento County District Attorney in 2022. Over his 25-year career, he has prosecuted complex homicide, gang, and sexual assault cases, supervised the Gang and Hate Crimes Unit and led the landmark prosecution of the Golden State Killer. He previously served in District Attorney leadership roles, taught trial advocacy at McGeorge School of Law, and has been recognized with multiple Prosecutor of the Year awards.

California’s 6th Congressional District includes communities across Sacramento, Placer, and Yolo counties, spanning diverse suburban and urban neighborhoods in the Sacramento region. The district — one of six that extreme Republican Rep. Kevin Kiley is considering running in — is a must-win for Democrats in order to flip the House.
